The 3.5e Dungeon Master's Guide has some rules for firearms in the Building a Different World section (p144). Page 145 provides details for Renaissance weapons: pistol, musket, bomb and smokebomb. It also provides some details and considerations for how gunpowder and firearms work. For rapid-fire weapons treat a hail of shots as a single attack, so that a sub-machine gun fires, say 10 bullets a turn, but that hail is a single attack of 1-8 dmg. While some may balk at the unrealism of this comparison (guns are incredibly damaging to internal systems) we're looking at in-game effects across short term, combined with a desire for balanced game-play.

- Seeing as my next campaign is going to focus more on surface world skirmishes than dungeons, I want to include things like ballistas in the tactical mix. The 5e DMG provides rules for them, but they are honestly so perfunctory they need to be expanded on for actual play. Here's my version of a D&D relevant ballista. Design goals.
