What Does Dmg Mean

Performed one to five minutes after birth, the APGAR score is an assessment to determine how well your baby is adjusting to life outside the womb.
APGAR is an acronym:
A – Appearance (skin color)
P – Pulse (pulse rate)
G – Grimace (reflex irritability)
A – Activity (muscle tone)
R – Respiration (breathing)
Scores are given for color, heart rate, reflexes, activity and breathing or respiratory effort. The scores range from 0-10. The scores are interpreted by health care providers to determine if the baby needs any medical intervention or is adjusting well to newborn life.
Each of the five factors is scored on a scale ranging from 0 - 2, with 2 as the highest score per factor. The total APGAR score will range from 0 – 10. If the baby recieves a score of 7, 8, or 9, then the baby is in normal range. If the score is 4, 5, or 6, some breathing assistance may be required. APGAR scores of 4 or less can require emergency, lifesaving measures.
